An honorary doctoral degree is a degree that a university can give where they waive the usual requirements, like matriculation, residence, study, and the passing of exams. It can even be awarded to someone who has no prior connection with that institution. Most institutions have other requirements.
For example the Christian Bible Institute and Seminary has specific requirements depending on which doctorate it is you're applying for. They only offer them for doctor of divinity and doctor of sacred music. For both you must be 35 years old, have a high school diploma or GED, and require prior documents of other degrees and things, you have to have completed at least 15 years of ministerial experience. You have to present a two-page summary of your work, along with a 50 page essay on a list of topics.
There are actually several other colleges and universities that offer this honorary degree, like the Virginia Theological Seminary. So there are definitely a few options out there if this is something that interests you.
